Uzbekistan to simplify transit of alcohol and tobacco through its territory

Uzbekistan intends to significantly simplify the transit of alcohol and tobacco products throughout its territory.

This is stipulated by the draft resolution of the head of state developed by the Ministry of Foreign Trade.

The current rules were approved in October 2007 and virtually nullified all transit traffic for alcohol and tobacco products.

Since 2007, transit of these types of products through the territory of the country is practically not carried out, according to customs authorities.

The new document aims to simplify procedures for transit through the country and provides for the formation of reliable transport corridors as well as an increase in the flow of transit traffic.

In particular, it provides for the abolition of the procedure for obtaining a permit from the government for the transit through the customs territory of Uzbekistan of alcohol and tobacco products.

In addition, the document excludes the need for the carrier to deposit the entire amount of monetary security (payment of the corresponding customs duties - duty, excise tax and VAT, followed by a refund of the amounts paid after confirming the fact of exporting products outside of Uzbekistan) in the account of the country’s customs authorities.

According to experts, the abolition of the current order will greatly simplify the procedures for transit through the territory of Uzbekistan and will serve as an impetus for further increase in the volumes of transportation.

Today, over 20 international transport corridors pass through Uzbekistan, including large international highways connecting Europe and Asia.
