A Dover youth group is calling for New Hampshire to raise the legal age to use tobacco.
State Sen. David Watters, D-Dover, is introducing a bill at the request of "Dover Youth to Youth."
If the bill passes, only people over 21 could purchase or possess tobacco products.
Watters said that simple three-year change would produce immense public health benefits.
"The potential is we can save thousands of lives and save hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars in cancer treatment,” Watters said.
The proposed age increase would also cover tobacco-related products like rolling papers and e-cigarettes.
