Filipino theater artists look back on the veteran thespian’s legacy
The local theater scene mourns today the passing of veteran actor Miguel Faustmann. News about his demise was confirmed by his brother Juan Luis Faustmann through a Facebook post.
“We are deeply saddened we have lost our brother Miguel who passed away peacefully in his sleep on the 15th May,” Juan Luis posted. “We will share more information on his memorial service in the coming days.”
During his time on the stage, Miguel has brought to life characters from iconic theater plays. These include Juan Peron in “Evita,” King Arthur in “Camelot,” Don Quixote in “Man of La Mancha,” Capt. Von Trapp in “The Sound of Music,” and Fagin in “Oliver!” His acting prowess was also showcased on the screen with his performances in TV series like “Ang Probinsyano” and “Victor Magtanggol,” and as Gen. Arthur MacArthur Jr. in Jerrold Tarog’s “Heneral Luna” and “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral” films.
Apart from acting on stage and in front of the camera, Miguel also dabbled in stage design and direction throughout his creative journey.
Friends and fellow artists shared their fondest memories on social media as they celebrate the legacy of the seasoned actor.
“Oh, my dearest Miguel Faustmann we have been together in so many plays, various roles, and creative relationships. And always, always with so much fun, and deeply memorable times. Vaya con Dios. Thank you for all the (heart emojis),” actress Pinky Amador posted.
“We had some great times, man. I thought we’d have more. You were the kid that never grew up, and yours was the light that always shined so bright,” actor Jamie Esteva Wilson shared. “What a privilege it was to have been in your orbit, from my very first time on stage to the last play we did together, when I stepped into a role you twice played so masterfully. I shall miss you, dear friend.”
“It was such an honor to have performed with you and such a privilege to have been directed by you. Not a few times. You were always down-to-earth, kind-hearted, funny, and multi-talented,” artist Gerard Sison said. “I will miss your friendship, always a joy to be with. May you keep them entertained in the high heavens, you kind and talented soul”
“I will never forgot all our funny moments backstage. All your stories. You smoking... and throwing your cigarette before entering stage right... followed by smoke,” singer and actor JM Rodriguez posted. “You were such a kind person to everyone and will definitely be missed.”
