Tufted puffins are set to make their highly anticipated return to the Oregon coast later this month.

The sea birds spend most of their time on open water. The only time we get to see them is during their nesting season.

Haystock Rock at Cannon Beach is the perfect place for those nests, because its soft soil is great for "burrow nesters."

“They pick these really high cliffsides that have this soft soil that they can burrow with their beaks in, and those burrows are anywhere from 4 to 6 feet deep. Then they lay a single egg in it, and it gives them a really nice protected area,” said Kelli Ennis with the Haystack Rock Awareness Program.

The Haystack Rock Awareness Program is set to host its annual 'Welcome the Puffins Celebration' on April 13.

Interpreters will be on site with binoculars and scopes to help you see them for yourself.
