Crutchfield named among best places to work in Virginia
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - For Crutchfield Corporation’s founder Bill Crutchfield, frugality informs nearly all of his business strategy and has since the tech selling company’s beginning.
According to Crutchfield, that mentality is in part to thank for the company’s sixth appearance on the Best Places to Work List by Virginia Business Magazine.
He invests in his employees, and in turn, they give their all to the company he launched more than 50 years ago.
“We still have employees here who make more than I do, but in the very early days, almost everyone made more than I made,” Crutchfield said. “I did sacrifice personally, but I knew it was the right thing to do, and I like I said before, when you do the right thing, it pays dividends.”
Take for example the dogs that can be seen running around certain sections of the Crutchfield headquarters. Crutchfield said it started with him bringing his own dog to work on Sundays, before realizing all of his employees should be given the same opportunity.
“One of those core values is respect for our employees,” Crutchfield and we respect people, and we treat them with civility.”
The positive experience shared by employees is by design. Crutchfield said he is honored by the fruits of their labor but not surprised.
“It’s the culture that drives all of that. We’ve had a very rich culture since the beginning,” Crutchfield said. “But all of it is centered around respect.”
