Hit-and-run suspect arrested after cyclist struck in Central Illinois

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS) — An arrest has been made in connection with a hit-and-run accident involving a cyclist on Friday in the 2500 block of W. Dinnius Road.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect vehicle was a 2014 Honda Odyssey. The registered owner, Joseph P. Trueblood, had previously used an address in the 100 block of E. Oak in Broadwell, Illinois.
The Logan County Sheriff's Office assisted in locating the vehicle behind the mentioned address. Upon contact at the residence, Trueblood admitted to driving the Honda and striking the cyclist.
He was subsequently arrested for failing to report the accident and for having an active Sangamon County warrant for failure to appear in traffic court, issued on December 5, 2024.
Trueblood received seven citations related to the accident, including leaving the scene of an accident, failure to yield, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, failure to render aid, driving with an expired license for more than a year, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and operating a motor vehicle with suspended registration.
