The mystery of the robbery of the Knights of Pythias clubroom about two weeks ago was solved Thursday when Leo Lamonde made a complete confession before Chief of Police Dan Levin. Lamonde admitted entering the K. of P. building on Spruce Street through the coal chute and the basement door and told of taking valuable merchandise and tobacco. He was bound over to the September term of Circuit Court and bail was fixed at $1,000, which had not been furnished at noon today. Lamonde was suspected of the robbery after he had been seen with several gold coins, which were among the missing valuables from the Pythian club. He was arrested and brought before Chief Levin who obtained his admission of guilt.

Workers poured close to 300 yards of concrete Wednesday forming the surface slab of Wexford County’s ice arena. The job was done in one continuous pour from Western Concrete trucks which lined the Northern District Fairgrounds. Workers spread the cement as it was routed out of the pumping trucks through large pipes which extend high into the air. A view about noon from the south end of the arena out onto the surface shows the concrete surface about half completed. The pouring went on into the afternoon and was completed Wednesday. Workers today are completing some troweling work.

Baker College will offer new degree programs at its campuses this fall, allowing students to find jobs that likely aren’t created yet. Jumping into the ever-expanding world of Internet commerce, Baker will start “e-business” associate’s and bachelor’s degree programs systemwide, including at the Cadillac campus. Baker has 14 campuses throughout Michigan. Bob VanDellen, dean of business administration at the Cadillac campus, said students with e-business degrees will be ready to search for a variety of jobs. “They’ll be able to work with companies to manage their Internet business, companies that do business-to-business via the Internet,” he said “They’ll be able to operate their own business over the Internet, set up websites.”
