Sprouts Farmers Market plans to open its newest South Florida store in Coconut Creek on May 9, finally saving fans in northwestern Broward County trips to Deerfield Beach or Oakland Park.
The new store is located at 1019 Lyons Road, near its intersection with Coconut Creek Parkway. It will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Following a ribbon cutting, the 7 a.m. opening will be followed by a full weekend of special events, including an outdoor “pop-up” tasting party and an opportunity to guess the weight of an oversize piece of produce, the company announced.
Sampling opportunities will be provided inside the store as well at what Sprouts calls its “vendor village.”

The first 200 shoppers on Friday, May 9, and Saturday, May 10, will receive a free reusable goodie bag filled with samples and special products, while the first 400 guests on that Friday will take home a free long-stemmed rose courtesy of Falcon Farms Floral.
Shoppers can also save 20% on their purchase over the weekend by texting COCONUT to 777-688 and scanning their app account barcode at checkout.
Set up to resemble an actual farmers market, Sprouts uses local sources when possible, including Alderman Farms, Brooks Tropicals, and Duda Farm Fresh Foods. The store offers organic, plant-based and gluten-free products and stocks products for shoppers on strict diets, including vegan, paleo and ketogenic.

Luxury retailer Prada opens in Aventura Mall
Prada has opened its fifth South Florida location in Aventura Mall.
The 4,000-square-foot store, with a black and white checkered floor inspired by the original Prada boutique in Milan, showcases men’s and women’s collections that include ready-to-wear, leather goods, footwear and accessories.
For those who are unfamiliar, Prada is an inspirational brand “synonymous with cutting-edge style,” according to the mall’s website. “Its intellectual universe combines concept, structure and image through codes that go beyond trends. Its fashion transcends products, translating conceptuality into a universe that has become a benchmark to those who dare to challenge conventions focusing on experimentation.”

The brand is also quite pricey, with purses and shoulder bags in the $2,000 to $5,000 range, according to Prada’s website. Women’s tops start at $775 and go up to $8,600. Men’s shirts range from $875 to $3,850.
The store is located on the ground floor of Aventura Mall at 19575 Biscayne Blvd. Learn more at prada.com.

Fort Lauderdale next in line for smoke-free tobacco burning device
Tobacco giant Philip Morris has announced that the Fort Lauderdale area will be its second test market for a new smoke-free device it calls IQOS.
The device, which delivers nicotine by heating, rather than burning tobacco, was introduced in March to the Austin, Texas, market. A national launch will take place after the Food and Drug Administration authorizes a newer version of a device that Philip Morris has been selling in 70 nations around the world.
Philip Morris is asking adults to sign on to a wait list so they can access the device as soon as it becomes available.

Potbelly Sandwiches opens first South Florida location
Bringing its first store into South Florida’s crowded sandwich market, Potbelly opened last month at 3325 S. University Drive in Davie. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
Offering “toasty sandwiches, fresh salads, hand-dipped shakes and freshly baked cookies,” the eatery is located just south of Interstate 595 in the Rolling Hills Executive Center plaza near HCA Florida University Hospital and Nova Southeastern University, according to a news release.
According to its website, the chain also offers hot soup that diners can pair with salads or “skinny sandwiches.”
The Davie store is the first of 14 planned by Stellar Hospitality and its CEO Rami Boaziz, who says he enjoyed the brand in Chicago, where it was started in 1977.
The publicly traded franchisor now boasts more than 400 locations across the United States.
