Giordano's and Greek's Pizzeria planning Greenwood-area locations

Giordano's and Greek's Pizzeria and Tapp Room are planning new restaurants on the south side.

Chicago-style pizza maker Giordano's is eyeing the site of the former Max and Erma's on U.S. 31 and East Stop 13 Road in Indianapolis for its third Central Indiana restaurant, according to a liquor license request filed with the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission.

Giordano's already has restaurants on the north side in the Castleton area and Downtown.

Greek's Pizzeria and Tapp Room, which opened its first location in Franklin two years ago, is seeking a beer and wine permit for a new restaurant in the former Beefcake Burger at 1642 Olive Branch Parke Lane in Greenwood, according to the ATC.

IndyStar has reached out to representatives from both restaurants for comment.

The south side has seen a recent surge in food spots eyeing the area. Popular purveyor of beef sandwiches and Chicago-style hot dogs Portillo's is planning to rebuild a restaurant where Don Pablo's Mexican Kitchen stood near U.S. 31 South and East Stop 11 Road.

Northern Indiana favorite Rise'n Roll bakery is opening a franchise at 1277 N. Ind. 135, next to Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Mississippi-based fast-casual restaurant Newk's Eatery has opened its first Indiana location at 1279 N. Emerson Ave. in Greenwood. It's planning 15 restaurants in Indiana.
