American Lung Association Is Proud to Announce our New Research Awards

“Research Awards Nationwide 2013-2014” Details Research Projects Funded by the Organization

Washington, D.C. (October 24, 2013)

The American Lung Association’s Research Awards Nationwide 2013-2014 report highlights lung disease research supported by the organization, including  diseases affecting infants, children, and the elderly.

Through its Asthma Clinical Research Centers (ACRC) and its Awards and Grants Program, the American Lung Association funds high quality research, with the goal of discovering effective prevention and treatment strategies as well as cures for lung disease. The Program supports laboratory and patient-centered research and is an essential cornerstone of the Lung Association’s mission to improve lung health and prevent lung disease.

“Scientific research is clearly the front-line weapon in eliminating the terrible toll of lung disease on our families and loved ones,” said Norman H. Edelman, M.D., senior medical advisor of the American Lung Association. “Support of this research is an investment in a healthier future for Americans who are impacted by and at risk of lung disease.”

This year the American Lung Association will be spending close to $9 million in lung disease research, supporting 85 novel and innovative research projects.  The carefully chosen research projects will focus on a wide range of complex issues to help combat and reduce the suffering and burden of lung disease - from lung cancer to pulmonary fibrosis.
